CORE BELIEFS

The Triune God: God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. (Gen. 1:1, 26-27; Ps. 90:2; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2)

God, The Father: We believe that the first Person of the Trinity sovereignly orders and directs the universe for His own purpose, pleasure, and grace. He has decreed all things that come to pass for His own glory. He graciously involves Himself in the affairs of mankind, hears and answers prayer and saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Matt. 6:9; Ephesians 1:3-6)

Jesus Christ, The Son: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Is. 9:6; Matt. 1:22-23; Jn 1:1-5; Acts 1:9-11; Rom. 1:3-4; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 1 Tim. 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Heb. 4:14-15)

The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. He gives believers spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (Jn. 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16; 2 Cor. 3:17; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 1:13, 5:18)

The Bible: The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. It is without error and is God-Breathed. (Ps. 12:6, 119:105, 119:160; Pr. 30:5; Matt. 5:18; Jn. 16:12, 13; 2 Tim. 1:13, 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

Man: Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God's creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates man from God. (Gen. 1:27; Ps. 8:3-6; Isa. 53:6a, 59:1-2; Rom. 3:23)

Salvation: We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his/her life by faith. (Jn. 1:12, 3:16; Eph. 1:7, 2:8-10; 1 Pet. 1:18-19)

Eternal Security: Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. (Jn. 10:29; II Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:25, 10:10-14; I Pet. 1:3-5)

The Church: The church is composed of all believers, is the body and bride of Christ, is formed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and exists in two aspects, universal and local. The universal church is a chosen company of believers, baptized by the Holy Spirit into one Body; its mission is to witness to its Head, Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel among all nations. The local church is a group of believers voluntarily joined together to worship God with praise and thanksgiving; its mission is to glorify Jesus Christ through an aggressive effort to disciple others by the preaching of the Gospel and the exercise of spiritual gifts. (Matt. 24:31; Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 12:4, 27; Eph. 1:22-23; Eph. 5:24-30; 1 Pet. 2:9-10)

Ordinances: The Scriptural ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper are for all believers in Christ. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 8:12, 26-38; 1 Cor. 11:23-26)

The Christian Life: Christians are called to a holy life of service and testimony in the power of the Holy Spirit, which service includes the propagation of the Gospel message to the whole world. There is promised reward in heaven for faithfulness in such service. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 3:12-17; 1 Pet. 1:1-16)

Eternity: People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (Jn. 3:16; Rom. 6:23; Rev. 20:15)
